Tamarind Rice

Tamarind is a popular rice recipe. Its souring taste is amazing. Most of the people are fond of imli taste. This recipe is mostly known in south India.

Ingredients of Tamarind Rice:


Basmati rice : 2 cups
Tamarind juice: 1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Turmeric powder : 1/2 tsp
Asafetida: 1tbsp
Mustard: 1 tsp
Channa dhal : 1 tsp
Sesame oil as needed
Red chilly : 6
Peanuts : 100gm
Curry leaves a bunch

Preparation Method of Tamarind Rice:

First of all cook the rice and spread on a plate. Set aside.
Heat the non-stick pan adds asafetida fry without oil for a minute.
Grind this into a fine powder. Keep aside.
To the tamarind juice add salt, turmeric powder, and asafetida.
Fry mustard, red chilies, Channa dhal, peanuts and curry leaves in sesame oil.
Pour into the tamarind juice mixture.
Boil tamarind juice till it reaches thick gravy form and until oil comes out with good flavor.
Add cooked tamarind gravy to the rice. Mix well. Now you can serve rice with simple yogurt.
